10 Common Abundance Blocks (and How to Clear Them)

Have you ever felt like no matter how much effort you put in—whether it’s growing your business, improving your finances, or even just finding more peace in your daily life—something invisible is holding you back? You’re not alone.

Many thought leaders, from Mary Morrissey to Bob Proctor, and teachings like The Secret, describe these invisible barriers as abundance blocks. They aren’t always easy to spot because they often stem from deeply rooted beliefs, old habits, or even the physical spaces we live and work in.

The good news? Once you can identify them, you can begin to clear them. And when that happens, your energy, opportunities, and flow expand.

Here are 10 of the most common abundance blocks—with space to reflect and resources to help you release them:

1. Limiting Beliefs About Money & Worthiness

“Money doesn’t grow on trees.” “I’m not good enough.” These old stories shape how we receive abundance.

Reflection: Most of us grew up hearing these words and have passed them to the generations after us. People evolve, so should our thoughts and beliefs. I recently watched a video of a mom making her kids plant their money in a hole to prove that money doesn’t grow on trees. Remember: you can change your thinking and what you teach the generations after you.

2. Scarcity Mindset

Constantly focusing on what’s missing rather than what’s possible.

Reflection: Often, people focus on what they don’t have: “There is no way I can afford that.” Recently, a very dear and trusted friend reminded me to spend money on myself. As an accountant and business advisor, I see many of my clients hesitate to pay for the best service or product—and then, a few months later, wonder why the issue they were trying to solve still exists. I believe you get what you pay for. I have also learned most people don’t value cheap things. Remember: your mind is listening—make sure your thoughts reflect what you want to see in your life.

3. Negative Self-Image

If you see yourself as small, you’ll unconsciously limit your opportunities.

Reflection: When you don’t think positively about yourself, positive things will not happen to you. I see my Chihuahua, Trouble, barking at German Shepherds like she is bigger than them! Create a new self-image for yourself imagining yourself where you want to be, dream big. Your mind will not know the difference and eventually you have a positive image about yourself. Remember: you are worthy of being abundantly blessed.

4. Fear of Change or Success

“What if people judge me? What if I fail?” These hidden fears keep abundance at arm’s length.

Reflection: Living in a country different from the one I was born in, this comes up often. We often think people are busy paying attention to what we are doing but in all honesty they are busy living their lives. I have been working through this one a lot lately as I venture into starting a nonprofit and wondering if people think I have excess funds to share. I am learning when to say no or not now and keeping my eyes and money on the mission. Remember: No or not now is a complete answer.

5. Unforgiveness & Resentment

Holding onto past hurts blocks the flow of new good. Forgiveness is freedom.

Reflection: Unforgiveness and resentment show that you are focused on lack and the negativity that happened. When I think back to the times I held resentment, and what happened once I forgave and let it go, the change was sometimes evident physically—I looked happier and more content. Remember: You don’t forgive for the other person, you forgive for yourself.

6. Over-Control & Attachment

Trying to force outcomes can choke off possibilities. Abundance thrives in trust and flow.

Reflection: This is also being in the “get mindset,” which goes back to scarcity thinking. As a Virgo accountant who is a perfectionist, this is one of the hardest for me to work through. I need to know how each thing happens and when. How am I working through this? I give it to my higher self and let it go. This is when I see the most results. Remember: The ‘how’ doesn’t matter, keep your eyes on the goal.

7. Lack of Gratitude

When we’re not appreciating what we already have, we’re tuned into lack.

Reflection: When we are grateful for what we have, we receive more blessings to be grateful for. I now understand why gratitude journals exist. As I write this, I have kept a gratitude journal for over 265 days—and I don’t intend to stop. Remember: you can show gratitude even for the smallest things.

8. Comparison & Envy

Looking at others’ lives instead of focusing on your unique journey creates resistance.

Reflection: This one is a big one. How many times have you judged someone because they had more than you? Stop comparing yourself or your business to others. Instead, watch and learn from them. Remember: the unpopular opinion is you too can do it!

9. Clutter & Disorder

A messy home, workspace, or mind creates stagnant energy. Clearing physical clutter often clears mental and emotional space for abundance.

Reflection: If there is no space in your house, workspace, or mind, how will you bring more in? While I have always kept a clean house, I was never good at keeping a clean desk or inbox. I thought the piles showed how busy I was. Now I keep a clean office, desk, and inbox. My mind feels better, and most of all, I know I have space for the next big thing. Remember: to make space for bigger and better things.

10. Doubt & Lack of Faith

Abundance requires belief. When doubt takes over, it cuts off flow.

Reflection: This has been a hard one for me to navigate as an atheist. It has taken years to realize I can’t do everything by myself. Once I reconciled with that fact, I learned to believe that my higher self wants more for me. Without faith that there are bigger and better things out there, I would give up. So, reach out to your higher power—by whatever name you use—and ask for support on this journey. Remember: Faith is about trusting the process and not necessarily a religious term.

Closing Thoughts

Clearing abundance blocks isn’t about “fixing” yourself—it’s about gently uncovering what’s been in the way of the life and business you truly want. Sometimes the smallest shifts—like tidying a cluttered office, forgiving an old hurt, or pausing to feel gratitude—create the biggest ripple effects.

At S Kastner Consulting, we believe in helping clients build not only strong financial systems, but also healthy mindsets that support sustainable growth. When you clear the blocks, you open the door to possibility—and from there, anything becomes achievable.

Remember: Abundance grows where your attention flows.
